Fat Baby Learns to Play Piano

This afternoon I decided to rest on the couch for a little after work. After a bit, I woke up, startled to realized I had dozed unexpectedly. The thing is, what woke me up was this wonderful piano concerto. I couldn’t believe the music I was hearing was coming from my own living room piano. I was even more startled when I sauntered over to learn it was my own daughter, hardly big enough to get up on the bench, that was creating these sounds. I took a picture so you could see too:

Holiday Things

For Thanksgiving, we had lots of fun with all our Muhlestein brothers and sisters.

Funny Family
As you can see, we’re all about the same.
Indian Ruins
Some people drive a long way and pay money to see not quite authentic Indian ruins that have been rebuilt by modern people. We drive a long way, hike a while, and see authentic Indian ruins that still stand as they have for 1000 years.

Funny Sunday

I just had to write this down. Here is what happened today at church.

1) Dallin’s 1st tooth came out. I sent him to swish some water at the drinking fountain.
2) I got released from being the Webelos Leader. I was surprised. Nobody told me about it.
3) The bishop pulled over the counselor and talked in his ear for 30 seconds or so.
4) I got unreleased from being the Webelos Leader.
5) The counselor did some other releasings and then said the High Counselor had some business.
6) The high counselor got up and said the our ward counselor already released the person he was there to release so he didn’t have anything else.
7) We had a baby blessing. The baby spit up all over his dad on the way to the front. Everyone laughed. He took his coat jacket off.

I think after those things, church was more normal but we sure got off to a funny start today.

Halloween. Too much candy.

Who is this?

Mummy
One roll of toilet paper.

And here is Ally.

Ally dressed as a witch
Ally was a witch for Halloween. We stuck her hat on with corn syrup.

Here is the rest of our kids:

Well, after the Trick-or-treat adventures we had lots of candy. Even after I made the boys pay taxes (about 10%), they still had plenty of candy. Too much candy does bad things to kids.

Here is what too much candy did to Ally.

We may skip Halloween next year.

Sometimes, things are meant to be.

Sometimes, things are just meant to be. Here is a little story that happened a couple weeks ago to illustrate the point.

Last month we bought a suburban.

The Suburban
2004 Chevy Suburban. Not the greatest picture, but Peggy has been bothering me to post one.

We’re satisfied with the “burb”, but after a short bit, I noticed the receiver hitch for hauling trailers had been removed. Hm?? Why would anybody do that. I was slightly disappointed that we were going to have to buy a replacement which would end up costing more than we’d like to have to pay. We got a pretty good deal on the burb though so I figured oh well, we’ll get it fixed up when we actually need to haul something.

So anyway, Last week on Friday I came home from work to find Gayla not feeling all that great. Instead of waiting for her to find the energy and will to make something to eat, I packed up all the boys and headed for Subway.

About the time we got to Pleasant Grove, I noticed that I hadn’t actually headed for Subway. Instead, I ended up near Hogi Yogi. For some reason, I didn’t want subs from Hogi Yogi, but wanted Subway instead. So I said to the boys, “Where is a Subway guys, I forgot?.” I remembered there was one in American Fork.

Back to American Fork we headed. All of a sudden Scott yelled out, “Dad, there is a Subway over there..”. He was right. Turns out there was a Subway in Pleasant Grove, I just was a couple blocks off.

We got a few subs.

You might be wondering what all this has to do with trailer hitches. Well, it turns out that the Subway in Pleasant Grove happens to be next door to where the guy I purchased the Suburban from works. After I came out of Subway, he came running out and said, “I thought I recognized that suburban!”. Turns out he had the trailer receiving hitch right there in the back of his pickup! He had forgotten our number or lost or whatever and hadn’t contacted us to get it.

See. It was just meant to be that we had a receiver hitch for our Suburban. Now we just need a trailer!

Weekly Kid News

This weeks news comes from Scott, Dallin and Tim.

Scott:

Last week I went on a motorcycle ride. The trail was very bumpy so I crashed seven or eight times. On the third time, I cried. And I cried every time after that crash. Finally, we stopped to rest. We ate two fruit snacks and two cookies and a drink of water and took some pictures. There was a stream there and some trees so we made leaf boats to see which boats could float the longest. Then started back down. It was easier than up but I crashed the seventh and eighth times. But then we made it to the end and drove back home. The end.

Editor note: Scott wasn’t as sad as it sounds. He had lots of fun.

Dallin:

I got to go to BYU. It was fun. I got ice cream. I got to go with Grandma. I liked it. I liked getting ice cream. It was cold. I like the ice cream.

I got to go to Clone Wars. It was cool. I saw Anakin and Obi One. I liked it. The end.

Tim:

Tim is a little better at drawing than writing.

They took our van

Bye to the Odyssey
There goes the Odyssey

We loved the Odyssey but it ran out of space. We had no room to car pool and give rides. It was a little tight when we traveled and had luggage too.

Soo.. disregarding the expense of driving a gas guzzling SUV, we opted to sell the Van and purchased a 2004 Chevy Suburban. Now we can give 9 people a ride all at the same time. We also get to spend $100 (or more) filling up the tank. At least Gayla doesn’t have to pick the kids up every day from school now!

The laundry room cabinets

Gayla is a little spoiled lately. She got new laundry room cabinets. Last week on Saturday we went to iKea at 6:30 or so and got home at 9:30 with enough cabinets to hang around two wall in our laundry room. At 1:00 am Sunday morning, I had the molding, a corner cabinet, and some other hanging stuff worked out. Sunday, I was too tired to write any news letters/blog posts or anything else.

After patiently letting our children play all over the boxes in our living room, and Matthew turning the office floor pink, we were able to get the rest of the cabinets hung by about 11:00pm Monday night. I still need to put some knobs on and apply painters caulk along the molding but it didn’t take long at all for all those cabinets to be stuff clear full of all the junk that used to be on the floor, shelf or wall. It truly is a nicer place in there. Gayla told me in return she’d do some ironing now and then.
