An update on my toe.
June 24th, 2007
I decided to take a few pictures of my toenail after it got smashed as reported in this post.
May 21st: I’m starting to see a little infection.

May 22nd: Infection growing. I’m really limping at this point.

May 23rd: Started soaking my foot in epsom salt.

May 24th:

After a few more days, the infection went away and I didn’t have much more pain. I could even walk normally. I forgot to keep taking pictures but it looked about the same anyway.
Finally, a whole month later, it was time to say goodbye to the old toenail:

Sure Did!
It was very loose though and was about to fall off anyway. It was pretty painless when I finally took it off. It was only attached by a little bit of skin on each side at that point.

Nice! I always wondered what it looks like under there….

Sure that was an infection? It kinda looks like it may have been the result of a subungual hematoma. Considering how it happened, a hematoma perhaps followed by infection is more likely. Either way, looks like it hurt!

Well, it sounds like you know much more about it than I do. You’re quite possibly right. It was red and inflamed for a week or so.

Ouch!
That happened to my toe! Watch out when it grows back! Mine started becoming ingrown and badly infected so I had to go have the new nail cut off at the podiatrist. You don’t want that….

Hi, I’m 10 yrs.
Um.. its almost mothers day and I’m making my mom some foot soak stuff for my homemade spa.
It involves Epsom Salt.
Will this Infect my mother’s Toe?
Plz no.

THe Epsom Salt is part of the recovery process, not the source of the problem.
