More on Skype Calls

We recently launched a product that interfaces with Skype and acts like a telephone. It plugs into one of the USB ports on your computer. You can dial numbers and talk on the phone as if it were a real phone.

As before, you can still call long distance for free in the US and Canada with Skype. There really isn’t any reason to use anything else for long distance. At least in the mean time that is.

For an enhanced skype experience, you can get a Skype Phone Here.

MyDrawings.com Dugg

OK, if you don’t know what digg.com is, go learn first.

Anyway, we got dugg.

To make a long story short, I was up real late last night making sure our web servers were OK. At the peak, we were pushing out about 6.6 Mb/sec. I was having trouble keeping things running for a couple of reasons. One was that I haven’t had time to fully implement the caching framework I’m using. Another problem was that my 2nd virtual server seems to be having some hardware issues and wouldn’t run the site for more than a few minutes before the program crashed.

Well, when I get things all straightened out I’ll write more about how I handled the server load. For now, I’m tired and am going to go to bed earlier tonight.n

If you haven’t drawn a picture yet, head over to http://mydrawings.com and show everyone your art work.

MyDrawings.com

After slaving for a long time, and getting lucky enough to host this on our work servers, My co-worker and I have launched a new site called MyDrawings.com. The site lets people draw pictures with just their browser. Users can draw on a big virtual canvas in much the same way that art classes have their students draw on a big piece of butcher paper. Well, with that said.. go draw a picture!

Free Phone Calls

This isn’t new technology or anything, but lately I’ve been using it more than I had. Everyone has heard that you can make phone calls over the internet. A few weeks ago, Skype decided that they’d open up the technology in the US and Canada so that you could call from your computer to a real phone for free. That lasts until the end of the year, but if the other party already has a Skype account, then you can call them for free no matter what.

Anyhow, if you haven’t already, go ahead and download the program. Then you just need a microphone and speakers. Most of you already have speakers on the computer so you just need a microphone. From there, you’re all set to call people for free. You can even do conference calls with up to 5 people I think.

My own blog again.

I just can’t seem to stand having my web log hosted on a server I don’t control. I thought of using the account I created here. I even posted a couple items over there in the muhlesteins.com down time. Anyway, I just always seem to come back to having my own server with my own blog as the solution I like best.

Anyhow, I’m not using the old software any longer so there will be a little bit different look and feel to Muhlesteins.com. Hopefully, I’ll add most of the content back in some form or another.

A New Blog

Well, I have been using SnipSnap as my blog software on muhlesteins.com for quite some time.  I did some work on our virtual server technology yesterday and woops, snipsnap now refused to load up all the posts that I orginally had at muhlesteins.com.  Well, I searched around a little while for a solution and was unsuccessful.

What I did find (I already knew this), is that the developers of SnipSnap are not actively maintaining the project.  It has been beta sofware for a very long time.  Since I have no desire to contribute to it and I have no desire to try to fix it, I've finally decided to ditch it.

The real test will be to see if there is some way I can get all the content I had moved over here.  I have all the data still but I'm going to have to get some time to figure out how to import it.  SnipSnap uses a markup format that is unique to itself so I'll have to see if I can write a script to convert the format to something that is readable by wordpress.

In the mean time, I'll post some of the recent news.
